This week we enjoyed an afternoon at Great American Ball Park watching the Cincinnati Reds play the Chicago Cubs. The Reds might have lost, but we had a great time trying to explain to Mario the differences between baseball and cricket.

Congratulations to Qinyuan for receiving the Dover Publishing Award and the Laws Fellowship this year at the department's annual award day. These awards recognize Qinyuan's impressive research output over the last year.

Congratulations to Mario on passing his first year research seminar. This is the first research presentation that he has given on his new project, which involves the synthesis of new graft copolymers.

Yongshun's manuscript accepted to the Journal of Polymer Science, Part A!

Yongshun's late paper has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Polymer Science, Part A: Polymer Chemistry. Yonghsun has shown that hydrogels containing lactose sugars as the pendant group in vinyl monomers can stabilize enzyme activity against heating and freeze-drying.
